What is the “NP-RN practice gap”?
A woman sitting at a desk in her home with a stethoscope.

The NP-RN practice gap is the phenomenon where nurse practitioners (NPs) who have completed their education and training as NPs choose to work as registered nurses (RNs) instead of practicing in their intended NP roles.

One of the main reasons students give for this decision is low clinical confidence as a recognized concept to highlight the discrepancy between the education and advanced practice capabilities of NPs and their actual role implementation in the healthcare system

Our commitment to Diversity Equity and Inclusion

We recognize that social inequities and limited access to quality rotation sites disproportionately impact NP students from underserved communities, perpetuating disparities in healthcare education.

Our program was recently part of a pilot study that indicated that our unique two-day workshop can be a beneficial addition to nurse practitioner programs This workshop significantly improves the clinical decision-making confidence and knowledge of graduating NP students, notably those from underserved communities.
